After all . . . it’s Christmastime
A few days ago I spent the evening with my girlfriends watching one of my favorite Christmas movies, Love Actually. No matter how many times I see it, my heart responds to its romantic sappiness and its poignant moments. I cheer for those who find love in the most impossible and ridiculous circumstances, Hollywood style, and cry for those who feel love’s heartache in ways that real people experience every day, but is somehow amplified at Christmas time.
A recurring theme in the movie is the idea that Christmas is the one opportunity you have each year to take a chance and express your love to someone who, despite your best efforts, or in some cases really lame efforts, may not know how you truly feel about them. For some reason this year I find myself mulling over the possibilities of what our Universe would be like, if all of us, in the spirit of the season, took a chance to express our love in a brave new way. The possibilities and scenarios for expressions of love are endless. . . Maybe it’s a new love, maybe renewed love, or love lost that you hope to find again. Perhaps it’s forgiveness you seek, so that love may find its way back to you or relieve your heart of a burden that you’ve been carrying for far too long. Maybe gratitude has been on your mind, but you’ve neglected to say thank you and I love you to the most important people in your life, the ones who love you the most. Or maybe you take a chance on the human race and open your heart and mind to the idea that everyone is worth loving, even those we believe to be our enemies . . .
If you have a willing heart and you take this chance, this opportunity to express love . . . you must remember this . . . you cannot expect anything in return. You are loving for the pure and simple joy of loving . . . in hopes that your life, your world, our Universe will be a better place because you chose love . . . because we chose love.
After all . . . it’s Christmastime

GI like especially the reminder that when we express love, we shouldn’t expect anything in return. The Creator of the universe loved us, knowing we would not necessarily return his love.

Merry Christmas! Naturally I love your post. Now I am compelled to see your favorite movie.
Love is like a gift. You give it not expecting to get anything back but just enjoy the giving.
Hope you are having a nice Christmas. 🙂

Oh just lovely and so true. Great words this Christmas :o)
Even those that have hurt you, you must still forgive, and hold in love … even if they can never return that love back to you. That is the essence of love and of true healing.
“The first to apologize is the bravest, the first to forgive is the strongest and the first to forget is the happiest.”
Moving forward with no guilt or unfinished emotional business with others is a must for healing and future happiness.
