Thank you One Salty Kiss!

Fellow Blogger Karen of One Salty Kiss nominated me for the Liebster Award. No cash prize or trophy just  a great way for bloggers to recognize and support other, new bloggers. Thanks for the vote of confidence Karen. I’ve only been at this for a few months.

After receiving the award, I answer ten questions posed by Karen so new readers can get to know me better. Then I “nominate” ten of my favorite blogs. These bloggers then answer my ten questions and pay it forward. I am honored to be recognized by a blogging peer, some one who only knows me through my writing and thinks I should keep up the good work. I am honored!!  My blog is a tiny fish in a big giant sea, so I welcome an opportunity to gain more readers, plus I get to let other bloggers know I like what they’re doing too! The criteria for the Liebster is that is goes to blogs with followers in the hundreds, other little fishes.

Following are One Salty Kiss’s questions for me, my answers and my nominees 🙂

1. Why did you decide to start blogging?

I have always believed I had something to say . . . something that would resonate with folks, create a sense of community and belonging in this big giant human race. So why now? After a big heartache, I decided to stop chasing dreams and to bring my own dreams to life. For me, that meant taking risks and I started with writing my blog, terrifying and amazing all at the same time.

2. What is your blog about?

Stories about love, life, and family. They’re my stories, but really they are everyone’s stories. I know this because readers tell me they feel connected, as if I am writing about them.

3. What are your main goals for your blog?

I hope to become a better person, a kinder, stronger, and wiser version of myself. I find that writing allows me to examine life and reflect upon its many mysteries. I’d like to become a better writer too.

4. What three things would you need with you on a deserted island?

My memories, a camera, and a journal (and a pen – is that 4 things?)

5. What are you reading right now?

I usually have a few books going at any moment in time. For the past few months I’ve read and reread Inviting Silence by Gunilla Norris. It’s a tiny little book that lives on my nightstand and keeps me sane. I am also reading  Susan Sontag’s On Photography, and How Al-anon Works.

6. Who do you admire? Why?

My parents. My mom because of her kind heart, unwavering faith, and her ability to find beauty and value in just about everything. My dad for his natural curiosity of all things on this planet, his amazing brain and how he shared these gifts with our family and our friends.

7. What are you passionate about?

Service of any kind. Our planet, our existence depends on humans who care enough about any social issue to be moved to action. For me, it’s the work I do in education behind the scenes to support families, and volunteer work I do with intellectually disabled adults. Every experience, every interaction enriches my life.

8. What are your dreams? Are you chasing them?

One more career . . . a writer of some kind, and somehow through my writing I help people. Chasing it makes me feel like it’s not within reach. I like to think I’ve caught it and now I’m wrestling it to the ground 🙂

9. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

Where I am right now with the ability to go anywhere I want, anytime I want with anyone I want.

10. What do you want to be known for?

In spite of the many mistakes I’ve made in this life, I want to be known for being the best sister, mother, nonna and friend I could possibly be to the people I love the most.

    Yahoo…Congratulations!!!!!! I think words are so powerful. Wrestling to the ground is so much more proactive than chasing. When people speak of their desires and use the word “if” I am compelled to tell them(and do). “Not if, but when.”
